THE MORNING OREGON-IAN, WEDNESDAY. JTJLY 4, 1906. 10 GREENWICH INLAID LINOLEUMS WILL DO THREE THINGS : THEY BEAUTIFY THE HOUSE THEY SAVE LABOR THEY SAVE MONEY It may be possible to keep a kitchen not covered with inlaid Linoleum scrupulously clean, but it is certainly difficult. It is drudgery. Such a kitchen will be a far less attractive and cheerful place than one covered with a bright, well-designed Linoleum. Moreover, it will be an expensive kitchen, for the cost of frequently renewing the paint soon exceeds that of the inlaid. Greenwich, an imported English Inlaid, can be scrubbed with any kind of soap, and will wear like concrete. We carry a large number of fine designs. Price, Laid, $1.50 to $1.85 Sq. Yd. J. G. Seventh and Washington European Flan " KILL THE INCURABLES" STATE VETERINARIAN IN LINE WITH MODERN MEDICAL MEN. Advocates Slaughter of Livestock Hopelessly Diseased State to Pay for Animals So Slain. SALEM, Or.. July 3. (Special.) State Veterinarian McLean wants the next Leg islature to pass a law providing for the killing of all livestock having Incurable diseases and for the compensation of the owners. He believes that $5000 a year would be an appropriation large enough for this purpose and that by the expendi ture of that sum such diseases as glanders could be stamped out. In speaking of the matter today, he said that It is impracticable to compel the kill ing of diseased stock unless some means of compensation is provided, for the offi cers charged with the enforcement of the law find loo much Opposition and Incur too many lawsuits. He believes that the law should authorize the killing of stock Infected with curable diseases, like mange, without compensation, for if the disease is curable and the owner will not apply a remedy he should bear the loss. In the case of Incurable diseases, which a horse might have and still live to do a number of years' work, he believes the owner should be paid the value, for his loss Is not his fault, and the general pub lic gets the benefit. In estimating the value he would have the diseased condi tion taken Into consideration and not pay an owner the value of healthy stock. In his opinion, the local stock inspector would be a proper person to place a val uation upon stock to be killed. He thinks the payment should be made as soon as an animal is killed, and should not be made to depend upon the uncertainties of legis lative appropriations, so that the owner would be sure of his payment and would not try to prevent the killing. He believes it would be well worth JSO00 a year to the people of the state If dis eased stock to the value of that amount were killed. Trunkniakers Defeat The Dalles. THE DALLES, Or., July 3.
